I just wanted some peace, and a little health care. Now I don't think that is too much to ask from your Representatives. It's not difficult and if you ask the average person they seem to understand very well what they want. That is why we hold elections, so the People can tell the Politicians what is expected.
One thing about Politicians is that they love to talk. They talk and talk, smile and exude warmth, then keep on talking. I sometimes wonder where they come up with all that talk. It amazes me that they never run out of things to say. Has anyone ever tried to put a point across to someone that is talking all of the time? Then you understand the problem, which is: Politicians don't listen and they don't care.
The People have spoken on many issues that our Representative Democratic Government has chosen to ignore. Issues like peace, health care, pollution, corruption and overspending by the government, jobs, taxes… I have a favorite issue I want resolved and that is cannabis, or hemp or marijuana to you Spanish speaking readers.
The major issue that Americans should be concerned about is the war in Afghanistan. I believe that our military presence there is the same situation that we faced in Viet Nam. Meaning that our leaders think the U.S. and our allies must solve the internal problems of another nation. Our leaders also believe that they have to "get the job done" and succeed, whatever that means, in the war on terror. The thought that any other solution might work better is beyond the military scope of understanding so of course if you ask the Generals what we should do they always respond with more force of arms. The U.S. became a victim to this mind set in Viet Nam causing troop levels to go over 450,000 before casualties rose to alarming levels, our economy collapsed and we were forced by the NVA to withdraw from the conflict, quickly. It has been said that Viet Nam was a war in which the U.S. won all of the battles but lost the war. This is happening AGAIN in Afghanistan.
I can remember clearly the discussions about why we needed to stay in Viet Nam, and the arguments for staying were the same ones that are being used today for Afghanistan. We were told that our National Security was at risk, which is the main argument today. So let's review all of the "Security Issues" we've had with Viet Nam since our departure.
There have been NO invasions or attacks by the Vietnamese against the U.S. since our retreat, deaths on both sides stopped and we have resumed somewhat normal relations including trade and cultural exchanges. The local people have no trouble at all maintaining their own security and the country as a whole has had no problem with foreign invasions or civil unrest. Since the war the quality of life in Viet Nam has increased significantly, without the help of the Americans.
What makes Obama and the Generals believe that only they can solve the problems in Afghanistan when the people there don't want our help?
So the bottom line is we are all living under Martial law and the Military dictates to Obama what is going to happen, even if the People don't like it. It's my worst nightmare where the bully becomes the Warden and everyone is a prisoner. My best advice is to start writing letters to your representatives in hopes that they will respond in a sane and rational way.
